Milestones!

We've reached a few huge milestones the past few weeks at the Hill household.

We had our first family dinner tonight!

Harrison is strong enough to sit on his own in a highchair, which was great because we could both eat and still be close to the kid!  He was getting very excited about watching us eat, so we finally gave him a tiny bit of avocado...we think he liked it, although most of it ended up dribbling down his bib... :)

Another fun milestone, Harrison reached his toes to his mouth the other day, but I'm not quite quick enough to snap a decent picture, but I'm trying!! :) He seems to really enjoy those tasty toes!

And now for those curious about which features Harrison has picked up from each of us...see for yourself!!

Left: Adam ~ 8 months.  Middle: Harrison: 5 months.  Right: Brittney, 5 months.

Hard to say! We'd love to hear what you guys think!

Hope you had a great weekend!!! We enjoyed some mild weather with no rain and a few sprinkles of sunshine.  Gracie and I went on a 4 mile run and I'm pretty sure I was WAY more exhausted than she was...  Next weekend if the weather holds up, we are running as a family a 4 mile race (Honey Wagon Race) in a town nearby.  Adam will be pushing the jogging stroller, I'll be holding the little 4 legged ball of energy! Wish us luck!

Oh this little guy...

Excuse the slight amount of drool...cutting teeth is hard work!!

How can you just not love this little dude?! He gets more and more personality each day, and it's so awesome to see unfold.

He's also working on that second bottom tooth! Yay!! Not too long and he'll be eating his first solid foods!

I tried to get the WSU cougar to show a little better on the basketball, but this was BY FAR the best facial expression.  Such a little cutie. :)

Happy Valentines

Happy Valentine's Day, Everyone!!!!!

Here at the Hill household, we are not much of a flowers and chocolates kind of family.  No, no...although those things are very nice and pretty, the way to my heart is definitely through my stomach, and lobster, champagne, and cake definitely get there the quickest!

I couldn't be more thankful spending this Valentine's day with my two loves...One of who so kindly snapped a picture for us... :)

This is the closest to a hug I've gotten yet!

In case any of you are wondering...Yes, that IS our 5 month old almost fitting into his 12 month old sized Valentines day outfit courtesy of Grammy and Pops.  And Yes, we will be hitting the links later this week to work on his swing (golf or polo) since I don't have any doubt before I know it, he'll have a 7 iron that goes 300 yards and a golf cart that needs dually tires and sippy cup holder...center console...

5 Months!

Today marks Harrison's 5 month milestone...unfortunately, Mama's gotta bring home the bacon and by the time I get home from work, it's too dark outside to get decent light to take a good picture, so I don't have any new pictures to share, but I'll make sure to take some this weekend...

Some fun facts about this kid at 5 months...

-Last week, his first tooth started to pop through on his bottom gum! Now we know why he's been on the cranky side lately and gumming on everything in sight!!

-He can roll both ways like it's nobody's business! Only a matter of time before he gets his legs under him and starts moving!!

-His hand and arm dexterity is really starting to show, and he can reach for toys and bottles and tries to hold books we read to him.

-Apparently he thinks dog barks are the most hilarious thing....who would have thought?! If only Dudley would have been around to see the day someone enjoyed his barks...

I'll post pictures this weekend! Have a great week!!

Friday Nights

Funny how weekends change after having a baby...No more Friday night romantic dates at the local El Porton, sipping on Cadillac Margaritas and formulating how we can retire at 40.  Instead, you are more likely to find us (meaning Adam) cooking up homemade burritos while we (meaning Brittney) bounces Harrison and plays fetch with Gracie... Now, by no means are we complaining about our slower pace of life, just different than what we were used to a few years ago...

To bring a little more pizzaz into our lives, I decided to surprise Harrison with a little something to awaken his senses.  I'd like to introduce....the Entertainment Corner...

So as you can see, I've taken some everyday objects (mirrors and duct tape) that you are more than likely to find in your garage, and put them together to create a wonderful experience for Harrison.  We've always noticed that he smiles when we hold him in front of the bathroom mirrors, so why not bring the mirrors to him?!

Now the only question remains is...who enjoys this activity more?? Harrison? Who giggles and laughs at the adorable baby in the mirror? Gracie?? Who sometimes tries to play with the puppy in the mirror??  Or Brittney?  Who gets a kick out of watching all of the entertainment that 2 cheap mirrors (actually 1 FREE mirror since it came with the house) can bring?!?  A three way tie, I think....

And if you are wondering what happens after all the excitement wears off and puppy and baby are ready for a nap??

We all take one....well, 2 of us take naps quite comfortably...I read about the oil markets...exciting stuff, I tell you....

We are staying busy on this side of the mountains, but learning to enjoy the little things, too.  Harrison has started reaching out to pet Gracie, but hasn't quite got the whole, "Gracie is a nice doggie, we pet her gently," concept and has instead gone straight to "Pull the ears because they are the easiest to grab..."  We are working on it.  Thankfully, Gracie is mellow and I'm able to diffuse Harrison's strong grip before he pulls too hard....Otherwise, Harrison LOVES watching Gracie play fetch and just laughs and laughs when she comes running back with her tennis ball or beaver pelt (not real....fake, fluffy, torn up toy...but gets SO much love from Gracie).

Happy February!!!!!! Hoping to see those on the sunny side of the mountains soon!!! :)

Jumperoos, Police Activity, and...a half marathon??

Hello All!

I really should just do a weekly recap since it turns out I don't have much time during the week to catch you up on all the fun, exciting things that go on...so here goes...

Last Saturday night we had QUITE an exciting night! Probably one of the most exciting since little man decided to make his entrance, but for completely different reasons...

It was about 10pm, Harrison was snoozing sweetly in his crib, and Adam and I had made a sizable dent in the second bottle of $3 wine from Fred Meyer (3 Blind Moose, if you're interested...it's not bad!).   All of a sudden, about 10 cop cars came screaming down the main road and side road of our house (see map below), lights blaring! Adam noticed it and said, "Hey!!! Check this out!!!!"

I thought this might be a little easier to understand...and please, I have enough on my plate now, I really don't have time to professionally "paint" maps/blueprints/etc. for all of you now that you've realized my talent in the computer generated mapping field... :)  Wait....you thought this was an aerial photograph??? :)

Because we were excited and curious as to what was going on, I grabbed Gracie in my arms and we went out on the deck to see what was happening.  A few seconds later, we heard, "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!!!" So....yeah....it was getting kinda serious out there...

After a few minutes, we noticed a few of the cars slowly driving back down the side road with their spotlights scanning the field. We took that as our cue to get the heck back inside because obviously they were still in search of someone!! We scooted our butts inside and turned on all the lights to scare away any potential criminals from hiding in or near our house.  Adam grabbed some sort of dowel (which turned out to be a broken handle of a pair of hedge loppers) to ensure our safety.  I hopped on the computer and found a link to the Bellingham police scanner so we could be in the loop.  (In more disappointing news, the slight buzz we had going from that fine wine was completely gone).

Cave man style protection
For the next 3 hours, the police were still at the intersection, and we watched a few of them search the field and tree lines by our house on foot with flashlights. The scanner was really no help in informing us of the situation. Eventually, we decided to call it a night......

I assumed when I woke up, there would be a news story on the incident on the Bellingham Herald or at least a report of something on the police blotter...but there was NOTHING!!! And there hasn't been a mention of it all week!!!!  Conspiracy?? Cover-up??  I just don't know, but something big happened that night and the fact that there were no reports on it just goes to prove my point.  I'll keep on the lookout for any reports or stories that come through...

Time for the baby update!

We could tell Harrison had been getting a little bored with his activity gym and wanted something a little more stimulated...he clued us in pretty heavily when he decided to do his first full fledged roll from back to tummy without either of us watching him (yay, parents of the year, right??)...So I went and found him a jumper-roo.  Best $30 I have ever spent! (Well, besides maternity jeans, I suppose...those were amazing...)

Harrison just loves being able to bounce around and listen to the songs the Jumper-roo plays when he hits the lion or monkey. And it's a life saver for those days when I'd like to take a shower....or make lunch....or go to the bathroom without holding a baby.... :)

Said activity gym...As you can see, this gym got lots of use the past few months...

Upgrade!! Just bouncin'.....
Also, can I just brag about Harrison for a second?? He had 2 shots yesterday and didn't even shed a tear!!!! He is such a stud...too busy flirting with the nurse to even be bothered with vaccines...I'd say he takes after his father, but I wouldn't want Adam to be flirting with elderly nurses or admiring their colorful fish themed scrubs...

And finally...I signed up for a half-marathon in June. Why???? Why voluntarily run in Western Washington of all places, where the rainy days far outweigh the sunny ones?? Why subject myself to extremely uncomfortable calf soreness during this first week?? Good question...but I'm hoping running is an activity that will stick and help me get back in shape...plus it give me an excuse to diligently research my "I just ran a half-marathon" incentive gift to myself....Oh the possibilities... :)

And you know it's winter when the puggle lays directly in front of the space heater...Don't worry, our house isn't freezing (if you know me and my cold hands, you can BET this house is toasty), but honestly...if I could lay in front of a space heater all day, I'd be there in a heartbeat!!! :)   She's a smart one!
Happy Weekend to you all!!!!!

2012 Hill Family Video

Well I finally finished it!! Remember the AWESOME 2011 video?? Here for your viewing enjoyment is the 2012 Hill Family Video.  Enjoy!! (Remember, if you are receiving this as an email, I believe you actually have to go to the website to watch the video.)

Also, if you'd rather have a copy sent to your e-mail to watch over and over at your leisure, I can do that too. :)

Hope the resolution isn't too blurry....maybe this next year will include a computer upgrade. (wink, wink, Adam) Don't forget the volume to hear those hand selected songs!!
