Two for One Wednesday

We just returned home from an eventful evening walk with the two dogs....

A little background...Thomas really likes to run, but neither Adam or I usually have any desire to run with him, so he pulls and pulls on his leash, trying to get a little sprint in here or there.   Then, a genius idea came upon us about a week ago. When we walk through a large park in our neighborhood, we started tying their two leashes together at the ends.  We figured that Dudley would somewhat hold Thomas back if he got the urge to run, and Dudley never runs, so we should be good, right?  The last few times, it's worked out really well! They kinda mosey around, sometimes Thomas starts to run, Dudley is usually facing the other direction, his feet are pulled out from under him by their leashes, and they don't get too far....until today...

Although there was another couple with a German Shepard at the park today, we thought we were a safe distance away.  Thomas and Dudley were walking along, smelling the smells, loving the cool grass, when all of a sudden, Thomas spots the other dog... Dudley, still trying to chew on a few grass blades, didn't know what the commotion was, but just so happened to be facing the same way...and the two dogs quickly went from standing to sprinting in a matter of minutes!

Adam happened to be closest to the action and went for the quick attempt grab at the two leashes...and missed...The second he missed, Thomas knew it was game and he was going to win by getting to that other dog, dragging Dudley the entire way.  Now, I'm not sure what was going on in Adam's head at this point, but probably not much, considering there wasn't much time to think. Within seconds, he was running behind the runaway dogs.

In the next few seconds, I saw, by far, the best grass-dive-flat-out-save that I have ever seen in my life. Adam went full out and dove on the grass for the leash, and luckily caught it. I literally was laughing so hard, tears were running down my face...and it didn't stop for about 5 minutes.  The cherry on top? The group of teenage girls that witnessed the entire thing about 20 feet from us... :)  Made my day, and Adam got a chuckle out of it too....and grass-stained knee :)

xxx's and ooo's
